Alternative Health Insurance

While few traditional American insurance companies offer affordable alternative health insurance options as part of their coverage plans, finding insurance plans to meet your needs may require additional research.

Alternative and complementary health medications and services are becoming more and more popular as research funded by organizations such as the National Institutes of Health continue to validate natural forms of treatment and preventative medicine.

Most Americans are familiar with at least some forms of alternative and complementary medicine practices with the consumption of vitamins and herbal supplements now appearing as a regular part of many individuals’ daily diet.

Even though the health benefits of some alternative and complementary therapies may be widely recognized, American insurance houses still lag behind the times with their offerings of affordable alternative health insurance.

If affordable insurance is at all covered under one’s traditional insurance plan, it may only cover a few holistic practices. Most commonly covered therapies include massage therapy, acupuncture, and chiropractic services.

If your traditional insurance covers allows for a flexible medical spending account and you currently pay out-of-pocket for your alternative and complementary medical therapies and medications, consider setting aside some money in one of these tax-sheltered spending accounts.

By prepaying for your alternative health needs in a flexible medical spending account, you may be able to save a considerable amount from the income tax breaks available to you.

Some companies exist to provide individual or group affordable alternative plans. A California-based company, Alternative Insurance, provides discounted acupuncture and chiropractic services with a modest co-payment and discounted natural remedies through a wellness wholesaler.

For individuals that regularly participate in alternative and complementary health therapies, this can be a significant amount in savings. Alternative Insurance only offers services in five states so far: California, Arizona, Ohio, Oregon and Virginia. More information on the company can be found at http://www.alternatveinsurance.com.
