Alternative Homeopathy Therapy

Adopting the philosophy that “like cures like,” followers of homeopathy therapy believe that using a small amount of the substance that caused a person illness in the first place, can have curative properties.

The small amounts of substances used in the practice of homeopathic medicine are thought by followers of homeopathy to be curative substances that help the body heal and regulate itself.

These curative substances are usually comprised of natural ingredients like plants or minerals, and their small doses are often referred to by practitioners of this alternative health therapy as homeopathic dilutions.

The homeopathic dilutions, also called potentiated substances, are ingested with the belief that “like cures like.” These practitioners, or homeopaths, have been around for a long time, as customs of homeopathy have been described in Europe since the 1700s.

Critics of this alternative health therapy have stated that the homeopathic dilutions or potentiated substances are too small an amount to do any good.

Some critics claim that any sense of well-being gained while using homeopathy is due to a placebo effect. However, proponents of homeopathy believe that symptoms associated with illness is just the body’s response to regaining health.

Homeopathy has been used for the treatment of skin diseases such as cuts, scrapes, and dermatitis and arthritis. It has also been used in the treatment of minor disorders, such as allergies and irritable bowel syndrome.

The practice of homeopathy is relatively safe for the treatment of these minor disorders, however, many homeopathists often refer more serious disorders to specialists better equipped to handle illnesses in an allopathic manner.

Homeopathic therapies have been regulated in the United States since the 1930s.
