Mom Time: It's Your Turn!
Okay, moms; you have been working very hard taking care of the kids and the house. It’s time to schedule a mom’s weekend to indulge your every whim. Do you have something special you would like to do? If not, here are 5 mom time suggestions because it's Your Turn!
First, if you plan to take a mini weekend vacation, you will need to make reservations well in advance. Perhaps a spa weekend in another city would suit you, or maybe a weekend at a resort would be more desirable. You have two options: You can either book your getaway weekend package online, or visit your friendly travel agent. Here’s another tip: Make your plane reservations on a Wednesday, as this is the day of the week most airlines change their rates. You can really grab a great bargain. Ensure your passport is updated, especially if you are traveling to an island.
Next, you’ll need to go shopping for a swimsuit and attire for your trip. This shouldn’t be too much to handle. Have your hubby watch the kids on a Saturday afternoon while you take a trip to the mall. Make sure you have all of the necessities for your trip such as suntan lotion, sunglasses, and colorful outfits for the day, comfortable walking shoes, and perhaps two outfits for the evening. Ah, can you visualize the blue and green ocean yet? Think about dining under the stars, while being catered to by handsome hotel staff members.
Okay, back to reality. Make sure the kids and your husband will have enough food for the weekend. You can prepare meals ahead of time, put them in containers, and label them. All your husband has to do it heat everything up. Shouldn’t be too hard a task, right?
Now that you have everything you need, before you pack make sure you go online to obtain the regulations being enforced by the airline. The procedures on how to pack for a vacation are listed on all of the airline sites.
You’re bags are packed; you’re ready to go. Well done! Have a safe journey and remember, indulge, indulge, and indulge.
Go to a Spa
The one thing we all want, but never have time for, is an all day spa treatment. However, we would certainly settle for a facial and a massage. Well, Mother’s Day is only a few days away and there is no better gift than a certificate to a spa. It’s mom time, so let’s go to a spa.
There is nothing in this world that compares to a facial. It leaves you feeling fresh, clean, and light. Moreover, add in a massage and the world looks entirely different to you, right? Sitting in a room with soft lights, soothing music; you can wile away the hours feeling content and at peace.
If this is your first time at a spa, here are a few tips which will help you enjoy the experience. Some take advantage of the sauna or hot tubs provided before the massage. If you are just going for a facial, the procedure is quite simple. Your face is cleansed and exfoliates are used to soften your skin.
However, try to take advantage of both facial and massage. While you may be a little leery about removing your clothes for the massage, don’t worry. They provide you with enough sheets to cover you entirely. Furthermore, the people who service you are professionals, and are aware of your first time jitters. They also recommend you drink plenty of water before you go so you do not become dehydrated during the sauna. It also helps in the cleansing process as well.
Enjoy the experience. Talk with the professional beforehand to discuss any concerns you may have. This will not only ease your mind, but relax you before the massage. Revel in it; become one with it, and just allow the professional do his or her job in order to give you the best massage of your life.
Hey mom! It’s time to go to a spa.
Go to the Beach
It’s that time, mom, when you can plan on spending a day by yourself. Where? The beach, of course. With summer fast approaching, and with all of the time you have spent indoors, its mom time – go to the beach and enjoy your day alone.
Whether you bring a book you’ve wanted to read; or bring a radio or a portable CD with your favorite music, this is your day and you can indulge in whatever makes you happy.
Remember to bring enough suntan lotion, a hat, and sunglasses. Pack up a lunch with all of your favorite goodies; bring plenty of water or juice, a blanket, perhaps a lounge chair and hit the road. It seems ages since you’ve had a day to yourself, right? Well, now that you have it, enjoy every warm wonderful moment of it.
Whether you choose a day during the week to avoid the massive crowds, or whether you choose a Saturday, you’ll need to have someone watch the kids for the day. Certainly, a family member is available to help you during the week, and your husband can watch them on Saturday.
You know, often times as moms we think we don’t need down time; that after putting the kids to bed and reading a good book is all we need. The fact is getting out of the house and into a different environment can make a world of difference. For just one day, you can make decisions that affect you and you only. What an exhilarating feeling that is.
Go to the beach and swim to your heart’s desire. It’s not only great exercise, but let’s out all of the pent up stresses you’ve been holding inside. Mom time is a rare occurrence, don’t you agree? Well go out and buy a brand new swimsuit, and go to the beach. It’s time; no, more importantly, it’s mom time.
When Dad Doesn’t Agree
Years ago, during our parent’s generation, it would have been unthinkable for any wife to explain the necessity for alone time with their husband. Well, this is a different generation with a different set of rules. However, there are always a few men who can’t conceive why any woman would want to be alone. Let’s discuss mom time, when dad doesn’t agree with your decision.
They say the more things change, the more they stay the same. This is true even when it comes to moms expressing their need to have some alone time. What’s interesting is that husbands can go out for a day of golf; go bowling; or spend the day fishing. Does the woman complain? No. I some cases, they insist they go, get out of the house, and de-stress. Why then is it different for women?
You know the old saying, “You can’t have your cake and eat it too?” Husbands assume that because their wives spend days at home taking care of the kids, cleaning the house, grocery shop; that it’s equivalent to alone time. Well hubbies, listen up…..you’re not even close to understanding why your wife needs alone time.
Wives should have this conversation with their husbands and explain the difference to them by using fishing, bowling, and golf as an example. Ask your husbands, “How do you feel after a round of golf?” Are you relaxed, less stressed, ready to face any challenge? Moreover, ask why they want to utilize these sports habits? What meaning does it have for them? Then, discuss your feelings. Equate their response with what you are trying to convey. They may not be so quick to assume anything after you detail your reasons.
It’s interesting that we assert woman’s liberation with equality. We still do not receive equal pay, even though more of us are in the work force than ever before. Indeed most women hold higher positions of power than ever before, and men respect and work with us and under us without hesitation. Yet when it comes to the home environment, the old way of thinking is inescapable. Your husbands upbringing is clearly having an affect on how he views a woman’s role in the home.
It’s time for change. Mom time is just as important for women as it is for men. When dad doesn’t agree, it’s up to you to explain it to him. If he still doesn’t get it, he probably never will.
