The Boy’s Body Book: Everything You Need to Know For Growing Up YOU

The Boy’s Body Book: Everything You Need to Know For Growing Up YOU is – in my opinion – an essential book covering the various topics related to teenagehood. Sometimes it is easier for teens to find answers in a book, or turn to their peers, instead of talking to their parents about certain topics to do with their changing bodies, emotions, relationships etc. This book would certainly help them to get straight answers and facts from an easy-to-read guide that is both reassuring but also very sensitive in its approach.

The book covers things like general hygiene, which includes: washing, showers, shaving, skin care and how to deal with acne, dental health, braces and foot care. They learn about the effects of drugs, alcohol and smoking and why sleep is so important to their development. They learn about body changes, body hair, vocal changes and emotional changes. I also like the chapter on academic pressures, peer pressures, study skills, how to get on with teachers, sports safety, ideas for after school jobs. The topics of relationships, self-esteem and making friends are also covered.

Overall, I think this is a great book that every pre-teen boy should own and read. It is packed full of important information on what to expect in adolescence, how to deal with it and also gives reassurance of what is normal behavior during, the sometimes difficult, teenage years. As a mother of a teenage boy, I would certainly recommend this book.
